Two words that became popular during the 1980s by influence of music. Rappers like Run DMC, Public Enemy and Cameo used word up or word all the time to receive ideas with affirmation, exclaim or ask their audience to listen to their words.

Word up has leaked into the vocabularies of people around North America and its still being used by rappers and in conversation today.
