Battle of Bull Run

Either of 2 American Civil War battles near Bull Run Creek, SW of Washington DC. Both were victories for the South. In both Confederate General Stonewall Jackson repulsed Union attacks. See First Manassas and Second Manassas.

Specifically, the South called the battles Manassas, and the North called them Bull Run -- one side (the Confederacy) named the battle after the nearest town and the other (the Union) after the nearest body of water.
