The Met.

London's main police force and the oldest police force in the world, having been founded in 1829 by Sir Robert Peel. Only a year later PC Joseph Grantham gained a dubious first: that of being the first ever police officer to be killed on duty. Although this is now an occupational hazard for the police in many parts of the world, in the UK it is still a rarity: on average in the 20th Century fewer than one officer a year from the Met died in the course of their duty.
