The University of Vermont (commonly known as UVM, which is from the Latin phrase: Universitas Viridis Montis meaning "University of the Green Mountains") is located in downtown Burlington, Vermont. Many of the folks who know and love the school call it "Groovy UV".
UVM was founded in 1791 and is the fifth oldest university in New England. UVM was also the first university to admit women and African-Americans into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. The university is composed of 8 colleges and schools, a graduate college, a medical college, and a continuing education division. This gives UVM over 90 undergraduate majors, 4 professional programs, 72 master's programs, 20 doctoral programs, and an MD program.
