When one subject phrase refers back to another one, without any grammatical indication that it does so. Similar to apposition.

example: "The lamb of God, the saviour, died."

In the above sentence, it is clear by their position in the sentence that "the lamb of God," and 'the saviour" refer to the same person.

Par`a*tax"is (?), n. [NL., fr. Gr. a placing beside, fr. to place beside.] Gram.

The mere ranging of propositions one after another, without indicating their connection or interdependence; -- opposed to syntax.
