A paraglider is a high-performance ram-air canopy designed for launching by foot from hillsides or by towing like a large kite. Paragliders cannot be deployed in free-fall as they are not designed to withstand shock of opening at terminal velocity. The glider is inflated like a large kite and the pilot flies gently away from the hill. Comparisons with BASE jumping are not accurate!
