An Internet project that takes successful advantage of global communication, affordability of technology, and a curiousity about the world around us.

From the website at http://confluence.org , "The goal of the project is to visit each of the latitude and longitude integer degree intersections in the world, and to take at least one picture at each location." Large bodies of water are excepted, leaving 12,000 locations to be recorded, of which 238 have been completed since 1996. There is an intersection within 49 miles (79 km) of you whereever you are on the surface of Earth.

The site instructs participants in the Degree Confluence Project in how to use maps, compasses, GPS modules and transport to get to each point, and aestheticly present the results, even when a majority of them are found in the middle of a field.
