• Scottish printers Colin Macfarquhar and Andrew Bell publish A Dictionary of Arts and Sciences at their Edinburgh shop. This dictionary will be very successful, and later come to be called Encyclopædia Britannica.
• Several Polish nobles and Roman Catholic clergymen form an alliance known as the Confederation of Bar to oppose Russian influence in Poland. They especially oppose King Stanislaus II whom they consider a Russian puppet.
• Captain James Cook, commanding the Endeavour, leaves Plymouth Harbour on his first voyage, ostensibly to observe a predicted 1769 transit of Venus from the South Pacific.
• The Spanish representative in Havana embezzles half of the Royal subsidy for Louisiana.  Not only that, Louisiana is forbidden to trade with French colonies.  Eventually, the Creoles in New Orleans expel the Spanish governor Antonio de Ulloa.
• Botston merchants boycott British goods.
• Rioters in Boston chase royal officials out of the city.  A British fleet anchors in Boston Harbor, and British troops occupy boston.  The officials return.
• Charlotte, NC founded.
• Genoa gives up all hope of contriolling Corsica and sells it to France. Please see next year.
