AOL is truely
on crack. They
skip **way** too many
version numbers.
The
AIM client went from 1.0.x to 1.7.x (there is little
difference between these
releases). Then to 2.0.x, whose new features are only
chat rooms and new
button graphics. Then there's 2.5.x, which has
file transfer. Then they skip to 3.0 without adding any features. They release a few 3.5.x
betas which add features, but no
final releases of 3.5.x are made. Then they skip to 4.0.x, which is
identical to the 3.5 betas. They're
crazy! If I were in charge of numbering the versions there, I would still be on 1.5 or so, certainly not 4.0.
This only applies to
Windows and
Mac OS users, of course. I use
gaim under
GNU/Linux, so it doesn't matter to me... except it's good for
laughs.
