The Dalahäst is a souvenir peculiar to Dalecarlia, the most picturesque of Sweden's provinces. It consists, quite simply, of a little wooden horse, originally hand-carved but nowadays manufactured at least semi-industrially. AFAIK, the finishing touches are still carved by hand though; as is the paint, a distinctive regional pattern on an reddish-orange (or sometimes, nowadays, dark blue) ground.
