A small town between
Kingston and
Belleville Ontario with a population of 1800. Off the
Bay of Quinte (
Lake Ontario), very little industry resides in this town. There is an abandoned cannery named the Arctic Gardens and last known from 1994 an
optical grinding plant.
Smack dab in the middle of a
Mohawk reservation, this little community once and may still retain the honour of being the area in
Canada with the
highest per capita of
child abuse.
I spent a year or so in this place living in a
rectory, doing the summer things such as;
Swimming in a quarry
Smoking hash oil & hot-knives in a barn with a torch
Stealing food from IGA at the end of my shift
Sitting on the 3 steps of city hall wasted
Beating up the cat-torturing kid
Skateboarding in the abandoned cannery
Listening to crap hick music
Puking green bile after funneling a mickey of Rum
Hay-ride family outings on a neighbours apple orchard
Haying bales of hay as a part-time summer job
Kissing girls in the hay fields
Stealing boats from the marina
Cycling 70km a day in the summer dodging black flys.
Beating up my landlord who wouldn't kill his flea farm in the carpets
As you can tell small-town life is a great influence away from the big city troubles!
I fondly rename this town Despaironto
