The story goes that this song came about as an ironic take-off of Coca-Cola's Real Thing campaign ("It's the real thing, baby!"). Supposedly, Coke offered the boys from Dublin a chunk of change to use the song in subsequent commercials, but, thankfully, U2 decided that this would be one irony too many and declined.
