Sports term.
1- basketball - A shot made from the field, but not outside the three point line.
2- football. A kick of the football towards a y shaped posts at either end. Gives 3 points.

Corrections to above:
In basketball, 3 point shots ARE counted as field goals. 3 pointers are sometimes called "3 point field goals". So a field goal is any shot that is NOT a free throw, whether it be a 2-pointer or a 3-pointer.

In football (American football), the posts are parallel, so it's not really like a Y. The NFL record for longest field goal is 63 yards, held by both Tom Dempsey (set in 1970 for the New Orleans Saints)and Jason Elam (tied in 1998 for the Denver Broncos).
