Lyricist. Long-time songwriting partner of Alan Menken. Wrote lyrics for the Broadway show Little Shop of Horrors (later a movie), and the Disney films Oliver and Company (one song), The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and half of Aladdin. Ashman died during the creation of the songs for Aladdin from complications due to AIDS.
