Metal band started in
1981 by
Nikki Sixx and
Tommy Lee. They have been called
hair
metal,
80's metal,
pop metal, etc. Simply, they are one of the largest
metal bands to
come out of the
80's, and one of the few bands of their
style to still be recording.
They were originally called "Mottley Krue", and after a changing the spelling the band began
what amounted to a
self promoting assault on
Los Angeles.
They quickly gained a large local
fan base due to their
outlandish stage shows and
personal style. It was long before they had become the
house band for many local clubs.
Known throughout the city for their
parties,
alcohol consumption, and brand of metal it
wasn't long before they were approached to record an
album.
To date, they have
fifteen albums, and continue to
record.

To Fast for Love
Released: 1981 by Leathur Records, 1982 by Elektra, 1999 by Mötley
Records.
Tracklist: Live Wire, Come On And Dance, Public Enemy #1, Merry-Go-Round,
Take Me To The Top, Piece Of Your Action, Starry Eyes, Too Fast For Love, On With
The Show.
Notes: The first album released by the Crue, who through their amazing abilities of
self promotion had become an incredibly popular Sunset Strip band. The album was
entirely financed Allan Coffman, who eventually became their manager. The first pressing
sold 20,000 copies and the band was immediatly signed to Elektra Records. Almost
immediatly after signing the contract, they released their second album.
Shout at the Devil
Released: 1983 by Elektra, 1999 by Mötley Records.
Tracklist: In The Beginning, Shout At The Devil, Looks That Kill, Bastard,
God Bless The Children Of The Beast, Helter Skelter, Red Hot, Too Young To Fall In
Love, Knock 'Em Dead, Kid, Ten Seconds To Love, Danger.
Notes: Spawned the video "Looks That Kill", and eventually went platinum.
However, the band's couldn't promote the album as much as wanted because on August 12th
Vince Neil was involved in a car accident that killed Hanoi Rocks' drummer Nicholas
Dingley (aka Razzle). Vince was charged with vehicular manslaughter and sentenced to 30
days in jail, plus community service and fines (which he served in 1985). Still a popular
album, with Shout at the Devil being my personal favorite.
Theatre of Pain
Released: 1985 by Elektra, 1999 by Mötley Records.
Tracklist: City Boy Blues, Smokin' In The Boys Room, Louder Than Hell, Keep
Your Eye On The Money, Home Sweet Home, Tonight (We Need A Lover), Use It or Lose It,
Save Our Souls, Raise Your Hands To Rock, Fight For Your Rights.
Notes: Eventually went double platinum. Also produced their first top 40 hit with
Brownsville Station's "Smokin' in the Boys' Room." The band also recorded a video for
Home Sweet Home which became MTV's most requested video for four months straight. The
majority of the band hated this album, and was called "total shit" by Vince Neil.
Girls, Girls, Girls
Released: 1987 by Elektra, 1999 by Mötley Records.
Tracklist: Wild Side, Girls, Girls, Girls, Dancing On Glass, Bad Boy Boogie,
Nona, Five Years Dead, All In The Name Of..., Sumthin' For Nuthin', You're All I
Need, Jailhouse Rock.
Notes: The original video for Girls, Girls, Girls was never aired on television,
and later a "clean" version was released. The band left to go on tour in Japan, but was
cut short when Nikki Sixx was hospitalised for a heroin overdose. Soon after, the entire
band signed themselves into rehab.
Raw Tracks
Released: 1998 by Elektra.
Tracklist: Live Wire, Piece of Your Action, To Young to Fall in Love, Knock
'em Dead Kid, Home Sweet Home, Smokin' In the Boys Room (live).
Notes: This album was only released in Japan, and contained the origianl Leathur
Records mix of the songs. There were no new tracks.
Dr. Feelgood
Released: 1989 by Elektra, 1999 by Mötley Records.
Tracklist: T.n.T. (Terror 'n Tinseltown), Dr. Feelgood, Slice of Your Pie,
Rattlesnake Shake, Kickstart My Heart, Without You, Same Ol' Situation (S.O.S.),
Sticky Sweet, She Goes Down, Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away), Time for Change.
Notes: The Crue's first clean and sober album. Produced by Bob Rock, who is by all
accounts responsible for forcing them to actually try to make a good album. Did hit
number one on the Billboard charts. Also had their first top ten single, Dr.
Feelgood. And I know we've all seen the video for Don't Go Away Mad to know MTV loved
this album.
Raw Tracks II
Released: 1990 by Elektra.
Tracklist: Teaser, All in the Name of... (live), Girls, Girls, Girls (live),
Slice of Your Pie, Without You.
Notes: Released after the Dr. Feelgood tour. Just a few live tracks for Japan and
crazed fans.
Decade of Decadence
Released: 1991 by Elektra.
Tracklist: Live Wire ('91 Remix), Piece Of Your Action ('91 Remix), Shout At The
Devil, Looks That Kill, Home Sweet Home ('91 Remix), Smokin' In The Boys Room,
Girls, Girls, Girls, Wild Side, Dr. Feelgood, Kickstart My Heart, Teaser, Rock N'
Roll Junkie, Primal Scream, Angela, Anarchy In The U.K..
Notes: Your basic "greatest hits" album. The only special thing about this album is
that every song was hand picked by members of the band. It opened up at number two on the
Billboard charts. Soon after the release Motley Crue resigned with Elektra for 25
million dollars and created Mötley Records.
Motley Crue
Released: 1994 by Elektra, 1999 by Mötley Records.
Tracklist: Power to the Music, Uncle Jack, Hooligan's Holiday, Misunderstood,
Loveshine, Poison Apples, Hammered, 'Til Death Do Us Part, Welcome to the Numb,
Smoke the Sky, Droppin Like Flies, Driftaway.
Notes: Motley Crue began recording this album in 1992 but it quickly turned ugly.
Eventually, Vince Neil was fired, and John Corabi was hired to replace him. Finally the
album was released in 1994 and peaked at number 7 on the charts. It did, however, go
gold.
Quaternary
Released: 1994 by Elektra.
Tracklist: Planet Boom, Bittersuite, Father, Friends, Babykills.
Notes: A very strange album. Released in incredibly limited numbers, the album
features 1 song written by each member of the band, written completely independently.
There are four extra tracks for the Japanese release, which is even harder to find.
Generation Swine
Released: 1997 by Elektra, 1999 by Mötley Records.
Tracklist: Find Myself, Afraid, Flush, Generation Swine, Confessions,
Beauty, Glitter, Anybody Out There?, Let Us Prey, Rocketship, A Rat Like Me,
Shout At The Devil 97, Brandon.
Notes: John Corabi was fired during the recording of this album, and Vince Neil
was re-hired to sing. The album was widely anticipated by fans, and opened at number 4 on
the charts. However, critics hated the album and it soon dropped off the charts. It did have
one video, but it didn't get much airplay. Many fans complained that the band had changed
their sound to much, and was trying to be to aggressive and dark.
Motley Crue's Greate$t Hit$
Released: 1998 by Elektra.
Tracklist: Bitter Pill, Enslaved, Girls Girls Girls, Kickstart My Heart,
Wild Side, Glitter (Remix), Dr. Feelgood, Same Ol' Situation, Home Sweet Home,
Afraid, Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away), Without You, Smokin' In The Boys' Room,
Primal Scream, Too Fast For Love, Looks That Kill, Shout At The Devil '97.
Notes: Another "greatest hits" album. Never sold well, because anyone that wanted
it already had the other albums. Bitter Pill and Enslaved were new tracks, however.
Supersonic and Demonic Relics
Released: 1999 by Mötley Records.
Tracklist: Teaser, Primal Scream, Sinners & Saints*, Monsterous*, Say
Yeah*, Planet Boom, Bittersuite, Father, Anarchy in the U.K., So Good So Bad*,
Hooligan's Holiday, Rock 'n' Roll Junkie, Angela, Mood Ring*, Dr. Feelgood
(Live).
Notes: The songs denoted with a * were unreleased tracks. It also added a fewer
hard to find tracks for people who couldn't get their hands on Quaternary. Much more
important, however, was that right before this album was released Tommy Lee left the band
to create Methods of Mayhem. He was replaced by ex-Ozzy Osbourne drummer Randy
Castillo.
Live - Entertainment or Death
Released: 1999 by Elektra.
Tracklist: Looks That Kill, Knock 'Em Dead Kid, Too Young To Fall In Love,
Live Wire, Public Enemy #1, Shout At The Devil, Merry-Go-Round, Ten Seconds To
Love, Piece Of Your Action, Starry Eyes, Helter Skelter, Smokin' In The Boys Room,
Don't Go Away Mad, Wild Side, Girls, Girls, Girls, Dr. Feelgood, Without You,
Primal Scream, Same Ol' Situation, Home Sweet Home, Kickstart My Heart.
Notes: Motley Crue's first all live album. Covered with crowd favorites, and sold
fairly well for a live album. Not all the songs contained the original lineup, as some of
the songs were recorded during the Motley Crue album era.
New Tattoo
Released: 2000 by Elektra.
Tracklist: Hell on High Heels, Treat Me Like The Dog I Am, New Tattoo,
Dragstrip Superstar, 1st Band On The Moon, She Needs Rock N Roll, Punched In The
Teeth By Love, Hollywood Ending, Fake, Porno Star, White Punks On Dope (The
Tubes).
Notes: This album was made out to be Motley Crue's big comeback, but even after a
fairly large tour and promotional campaign it didn't sell well. It did, however, bring
old fans out of the woodwork. The band dropped the "dark" sound found on Decade of
Decadence in favor of a more classic Motley Crue sound.
