I received a message to call a client, what follows is my attempt to follow up and illustrates why I am not an advocate of modern technology.

Me: "Hello! Could I speak to Mr. Le..."

Machine: "Thank you for calling! If you know your party's extension please dial it now. For a company directory dial 2. If you do not have a touch tone telephone, or wish to speak to an operator dial 0 or hold. If you are a practitioner of Wicca please hang up now."

Enter 2 for directory

Machine: "Please enter the first four letters of the entities last name, followed by the star key."

Enters LEGI*

Machine: "Transferring you now. There are two calls ahead of you, calls will be answered in the order received, and your approximate wait time is three minutes and forty seconds."

Listen to hold message about upcoming opening of 10th Circle due to overcrowding. Something about demographics, lawyers, politicians and telemarketers, I confess I did not really pay attention.

Baphomet: "Hello, this is Baphomet."

Me: "Excuse me; I'm sorry I was trying to reach Mr. Legion."

Baphomet: "Well you need a different department. Do you have the extension?"

Me: "Uh no, just th..."

Baphomet: "Let me put you back to the operator."

Long pause, clicking sounds then dial tone.

Redial number, listen to menu choices again, opt for operator this time.

Machine: "Approximate wait time for an operator is 4 minutes."

Seven seconds later

Operator: "Hello, what extension please?"

Me: "I don't have the extension; I am trying to get hold of Mr. Legion."

Operator: "Legion has several extensions, for he is many; let me get you with his assistant."

Hold again, different message this time, something about abandoning hope all who enter, I was coming to that conclusion myself.

Assistant: "Counts of Hell, how can I help you?"

Me: "Mr. Legion please?"

Assistant: "I'm sorry, but Legion is currently discarnate. However, during times of disembodiment his boss normally takes his calls, shall I put you through?"

Me: "Oh! No, no I don't think so, no, I will just call back later."

After hanging up I realize I did not ask when he was expected back. Goddamn them...
