Acronym fo Near Letter Quality, used to denote the quality of the output a dot matrix printer was capable of. The implicit assumption being that Letter Quality was offset or laser printed. Usually there was an NLQ mode on the printer, that, when engaged, slowed the print speed by an order of magnitude but produced darker and smoother text output.
