This is a person who has recently given up smoking and automatically considers themself to be the voice of morality that must preach unto any "unclean" smoker they come across.

It usually starts with the snide comment, muttered under their breath: "Dirty, filthy habit that.", soon followed by: "It'll kill ya".

These are the kind of people who I would like to throw down a hole with a pack of angry pit-bulls and make them fight over a lump of meat.

The best way to deal with these people is to taunt them. When they see you light up, before they can add their holier-than-thou commentary, politely offer them a stick. Then, when they start in with the indignant denial, simply shrug your shoulders. Don't say anything for a few seconds after they finish their ranting. Then say, 'Well, if you change your mind..'

If you see this person frequently, you will inevitably break down their resolve, thus shutting them up.

Note to those who think this is evil: People who don't really want to quit smoking usually end up going back to it. People who spend an inordinate amount of time vehemently preaching about the evils of the habit they've just disowned usually fall into that category. Those who have their own good reasons for not smoking don't need someone else to support them, and thus are unlikely to evangelize in the first place.

Well, isn't this rich. I stumbled upon this write-up after quitting smoking because it was soft-linked to a write-up I had evangelizing to non-smokers.
