Pinot Gris, or Pinot Grigio as it is often called in the United States and Italy, is a fine white wine which tends to have a short fermentation time. Pinot Gris is one of the most popular white wines to serve with seafood, as it is drier than red wines and most other white wines.
It is not uncommon for Pinot Gris to taste sweet and fruity, as peaches, pears, apples and a small handful of other fruits are often included in the liquid. It is most definitely a wine that is meant to be consumed while eating, as the sweet flavor also mixes quite well with salads and breads.
The most common (and probably the best tasting) Pinot Gris is created and bottled in Oregon. Most high-quality brands will cost around $20 per bottle, and these are the brands that have won acclaim from publications such as Wine Today and The New York Times. |
