Plzen, Czech Republic, sometimes spelled as Pilsen by German- or English-speakers, is a major urban center in western Bohemia, with a population of some 175,000. Founded in 1295, it is now a significant cultural, business, and industrial center, well-known for Pilsener beer and the Skoda manufacturing company.
