Punk rock fashion accessories

So, you want to be a fashion punk. First of all, don't. On the other hand, if you actually like the music and feel you need to express this through a style change, then by all means do it. But if you just think it looks cool, I'd suggest you go hang out with the ravers. Anyway, the first step is to get some f'in rank clothing. Old, ripped, home made t-shirts, similar pants (Dickies are good, they're indestructible) and plenty of saftey pins to fix spontaneous rips in your new (well, relatively anyway) duds. As for the less required elements, many punks like to wear metal spikes on any piece of leather they can find, wrist bands, belts, gloves, etc. If you want to look extra intimidating make sure that the wrist bands cut off almost all blood flow to your hand, causing all the small blood vessels to bulge outwards, and making you look really bad ass. Wallet chains seem to be popular amongst all the cliques, so go with how you feel. Just make sure it won't be an anchor for you to get slugged around by in the pit. Congratulations, you're all decked out, now you just need some dangerous personal philosophies.

You want to look like a punk? Go to Hot Topic. They have all the multi-zippered plaid bondage pants and reproduced band t-shirts you'd ever want, plus cutsie little spiked collars and bracelets and wallet chains to complete the ensemble.

You are a punk? Then get your punk ass to the Goodwill. You are not a little Barbie doll, you need not dress like everyone else in your clique. Think about it - what is it about punk that appeals to you, anyway? The herd-like behavior? The status symbols? The instant acceptance of your lifestyle by the mainstream? Damn fucking straight it ain't.

Don't worry about what everyone else is wearing. Don't feel the need to buy ripped clothing (but take it if it's free and you like it). Go into a thrift store - and not a trendy little thrift boutique that will define style for you - and grab what appeals to you. Jeans, Dickies, and plain t-shirts you can get anywhere.. garage sales, free boxes. You want to wear a disco gown? Do it. Accessorize with safety pins on the shoulders or combat boots or a tiara or a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fanny pack. Whatever strikes your fancy. Find t-shirts with cool designs, or the logos of hair bands you loved in your youth.

If anyone gives you shit about it, punch them. And as they lie on the ground, do explain to them that punk has not a goddamn thing to do with fashion.
