Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit

It is generally accepted that a person who resorts to sarcasm to make humour really lacks the quick wits required to invoke the more evelated forms of humour such as satire, parody, irony, visual humour, observational humour or even the plain old double entendre

Often used as a retort to someone who has just made a sarcastic remark when the receiver cannot quickly think of a snappy comeback.

A good retort to this remark is: "yes, but at least it's some kind of wit".

That's my husband's line. He complains if I don't credit him with his gags.
