| Margaret Atwood's poem Siren Song, written in 1976, was an outcry to women everywhere.
The poem was written in recurring tercets paralleling the three women portrayed in Homer's Odyssey. The poem was taken from the perspective of one of the three half bird half woman mythological characters. The sarcastic tone spoke to women arguing a man's assumed control.
Atwood continued her calling to sever man's control with her many novels and poems of which a feminist tone could be interpeted. This tone is viewed in her most well known novel The Handmaid's Tale. |
