A special-investigations unit (founded by novelist and ex-CIA man E. Howard Hunt) within Richard Nixon's White House. They were the ones who broke into psychiatrist Lewis Fielding's office, looking for dirt on patient Daniel Ellsberg, the man who leaked the Pentagon Papers to the press - the "Plumbers" nickname came from that ("stop leaks"). They also, among other things, sponsored the Watergate burglary, duping some Cuban exiles into believing Fidel Castro was helping fund the Democrats.
