We Are The World

There comes a time when we need a certain call
When the world must come together as one
There are people dying
Oh, and it's time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all

We can't go on pretending day by day
That someone, somehow will soon make a change
We're all a part of God's great big family
And the truth - you know love is all we need

CHORUS:
We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
so let's start giving
There's a choice we're making

We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day
Just you and me

Well, send'em your heart
So they know that someone cares
And their lives will be stronger and free
As God has shown us
By turning stone to bread
And so we all must lend a helping hand

CHORUS.

When you're down and out
There seems no hope at all
But if you just believe
There's no way we can fall
Well, well, well, let's realize
That one change can only come
When we stand together as one

REPEAT CHORUS AND FADE

(written 1985, by Lionel Ritchie and Michael Jackson for USA for Africa)

The exact same thing that happened to kessenich, happened to me in the late 80's: I was visiting my brother and he dragged me along to a New Ageish church in a mini-mall. Everyone sat in a circle and all i remember was the end, when this song was played an all of us stood around, holding hands and singing to this song, played on a boombox with the treble way up, and the tape a bit worn out. I kept wavering between giggling uncontrollable or hiding under the orange plastic chair. That night, I dragged my brother out to a Dead Kennedy's show for an exorcism.

They played this at my sixth grade graduation dance, and they...

they...

oh god

They told us to form a circle and hold hands. So we did. So *I* did, owing to the fact that I had been petrified into near-catatonia for a steady two hours and didn't think to mutiny.
