Age regression is what many stage hypnotists, “Past-lives channelers,” and even many psychotherapists claim to be able to induce in people who are under hypnosis. A person who is “age regressed” are hypnotized into being a younger age or even believing they are alive centuries earlier than it currently is. Some therapists make the claim that hypnosis helps patients retrieve long buried memories accurately.

Sometimes age regression occurs without direction from the therapist. In Dissociative Identity Disorder it is common for the person to age regress into a child personality at inopportune times. At times, in therapy, even a person who is not DID may regress into a child state of consciousness, whether this is the therapy session goal or not.
