Unlike real gravity, artificial gravity is merely a simulacrum. The normal postulated methods for creating it involve massive spaceships being rotated so that the centripetal force (there is no such thing as centrifugal force) acting upon the passengers gives them a sense of up and down. This is how gravity would be provided in Larry Niven's fictional Ringworld.
