Similar to the Xylophone but made of steel. Bars of metal are laid out in order of the chromatic scale. Two mallets are then used to strike the bars, producing tones. Different materials for the mallets produce different types of sounds.

An instrument, originally a series of bells on an iron rod, now a set of flat metal bars, diatonically tuned, giving a bell-like tone when played with a mallet; a carillon.
