Acting towards a goal with only the barest awareness of what that goal is, or why it in any way affects you. This is the natural state of the automaton, who completes tasks because there are tasks in need of completion. The existential vacuum is the phenemonon which envelopes those who go through the motions without feeling any passion or connection to their accomplishments. Maybe it's time to look at starting over.
