nut butter

An edible, creamy, viscous paste made from nuts. Nut butters are rich sources of protein and fat. There are many varieties, including almond, cashew, macadamia, hazelnut, and peanut butter.

Tahini, composed of sesame seeds, is sometimes mistaken for a member of the nut butter family, but in fact is a seed butter. Other seed butters of note include sunflower and pumpkin seed butter.

Another faux nut butter is soy butter. Because the soybean is arguably both a seed and a bean, its butter is a both a seed butter and a bean butter (mmm...bean butter...).
