(The answer is that according to the Gregorian calendar which we use now, it begins January 1, 2001, but if you're looking for 2000 years after Jesus' birth, it passed a few years ago; the start date for the A.D. year system was incorrectly calculated around the year 750 when it replaced the old system based on the founding of the Rome.)
