A form of cell active transport similar to phagocytosis. Pinocytosis is the capture of liquid external to a cell in a membrane which is then brought inside a cell. This is often achieved by using pseudopodia. Pinocytosis is often used by cells to move liquids (and ions in the liquids) into or out of a cell against a concentration gradient.
