In pool, a wooden staff with a metal piece attached at one end. The metal piece has multiple grooves in which to rest the cue stick. The reach is used when a given shot is out of the players comfortable shooting range.

AKA: Cheater stick, Hoe of Destruction (see Ultima VII: Black Gate).

A boat sailing on a reach sails on a course between around 70 degrees (closehauled) and 160 degrees to the wind (running). A reach can be split into three main categories: A close reach, beam reach and broad reach.

A close reach is a course in-between closehauled and right angles to the wind
A beam reach is a course at right angles to the wind
A broad reach is a course in-between a beam reach (90 degrees to the wind) and dead downwind.
