one---
a raindrop up,
drips from ceilings / onto walls, floors.
laughing children
run through hallways,
sounded ecstatic
I squint my eyes to
rearrange the tiled floor; again.
(the familiar hum of passing cars on the wet ground)
two---
first period:
the whine of television in background,
found tense over scalding coffee,
misguided questions.
second period:
conductor; shouted over
discord; nonetheless serene,
over the roaring protests of thousands.
third period:
an isolated laugh; teacher glares:
--"no regard for beauty."
fourth period:
students -demand movie; how teacher weeps.
sunshine glares through windows, folded chiaroscuro
breaks unto your eyelids.
fifth period:
unrestricted sunlight blinds us,
children in a field across the road
ascend the hill.
inside the clocks falter off every wall.
three---
lit up hallway
-they glissade asunder, unwavering from their silence
the fluorescent lights buzz continuously.
A girl walks by
with far
too many books
She stumbles, trips
and falls.
-gathers her things and walks away.
At the end of the hallway, light peeks through a closed window.
footsteps in the distance were overheard,
The sounds of classes reverberate through closed doors.
The numbers on a door frame droop and fall off.
A tree outside sheds its leaves; this change is
equally temporary;- to fall into the arms of the idea
that they will soon be replaced.
These poems were written by me about two years ago today, I edited them but tried to keep true to the tone and statement, just amending some of the big errors I made.
