Be very careful about everything one says or does, usually around a certain person or group of people in order to avoid giving offence, upsetting, or annoying them.

This may be necessary as a result of known depression or over-sensitivity on the part of the other person or a known and acknowledged prejudice, or lack of cultural awareness in oneself.
