Sequential constraints in phonology

8/1/08 Update: wordnerd == not dead

Does the wordnerd look like a fan of kickassery? You be the judge.

Swap says You look like you're about to beat slap some ho's because bitch owed you money, in fact.
Bitriot says You look like you're gearing up to kick some ass
You said I'm really quite fragile, though the dangerousishness is intentional
Mortuorum Dialogi says Ha. In that case I promise not to run away, should I see you in the streets. Others who look like you, yes. Run like hell.

BABY JUICE GOOD FOR K-MART, GOOD FOR BIBLE. LOL

To those interested, http://www.brokenhattrick.com is my personal journal. I write there more than I tend to write here. You're all welcome to join me there.

I am also a fulltime web developer. I make things work. http://www.shift-2.net for more information. I like what I do so much that I am advertising my company on a place that I couldn't imagine would actually get me clients. I don't care. BUY MY SERVICES LOL.

I used to do node audits regularly. I no longer have the time to devote to such projects. But if you want me to take a look at a smaller selection of pieces, gimme a holler. I'll do my best to not let the request fall off the stack.

Sequential constraints in phonology (idea) - Sun Nov 25 2007 at 2:27:36 PM
Herein I discuss the linguistic concept of sequential consonant cluster usage.

November 14, 2007 (log) - Wed Nov 14 2007 at 1:08:25 PM
I had jury duty and it filled me with sorrow.

unChing! (idea) - Sun Nov 11 2007 at 12:26:10 PM
gitm and I had talked a lot about the proper balance to the standard C!. So I wrote this highly contentious writeup, mostly so that the discussion could be had. The thick-skinned do well here at E2, the thin-skinned do not. I think it's a good thing to have an opposition mark to the C!. I can only hope it is actually implemented someday.

test5 (fiction) - Fri Nov 09 2007 at 10:16:14 AM
kthejoker made a test writeup that he inadvertently challenged me to supersede. Over the span of an hour or so, this short story is what I came up with: a bizarre pair of journal days for a man working in Area 51.

March 17, 2007 (person) - Fri Mar 16 2007 at 9:49:59 PM
There had been some ado about recent activities on E2. I felt the need to scratch down a few thoughts.

book report (thing) - Fri Dec 30 2005 at 2:54:08 PM
This is the end-all, be-all How To for writing a scholastic book report. I think it is actually longer than most book reports tend to be.

Tsafiki (thing) - Sat Dec 03 2005 at 10:37:53 PM
I did a lengthy anthropological linguistic study on the language Tsafiki and the people who speak it. Warning, there is little here that is to be understood by people who are not already in the field of linguistics.

Editor Log: October 2005 (log) - Tue Oct 18 2005 at 7:49:37 PM
An editor log, describing my nukes for the month of October, 2005.

Editor Log: September 2005 (log) - Sat Sep 17 2005 at 11:25:54 PM
An editor log, describing my nukes for the month of September, 2005.

August 23, 2005 (log) - Mon Aug 22 2005 at 9:22:32 PM
A journal entry wherein I speak of Church-sponsored Bingo games for old people in smoky rooms and what it's like to work such a session.

Writeups of Mine I Feel Were Treated Unfairly

That's strange, there's nothing here!

English Gripes:

  • "The proof is in the pudding." --> "The proof of the pudding is in the eating."
  • "My old stomping grounds." --> "My old stamping grounds."
  • "Less" vs. "Fewer"
  • "Different than" vs. "Different from"
  • "Unique" requires no modification. It's an on-or-off status. Nothing is very unique. It is either unique or it is not unique.
  • Data, agenda, and media are all plural nouns. Treat them accordingly.
  • "Awhile" (adverb) vs. "A while" (noun).
  • "Flounder" (a fish) vs. "founder" (verb).
  • The word "so" implies a pairing with a "that." I get so annoyed when I don't see the paired word that I nearly scream.
  • The serial comma is there for a reason — please use it.
