Positive connotation: someone who will node upon request, or explicate existing nodes, especially when offered C! potential.

"If you'll say more about this work and that work in your writeup about that author, it would probably be worth a C!"

I'll freely admit to doing this. Of course, you don't have to offer upvotes or C!s explicitly - simply knowing that you will go look at a writeup I've spent time on is usually enough.

Found in many gaming groups, this concept is not unique to everything. Typically, the individual somehow manages to get the Dungeon Master/Game Master to let him/her go away while everybody else is doing something boring yet plot-oriented while the individual wanders into the forest to fight monsters for no apparent reason. Not good roleplaying. Naturally this kind of XP Whoring is only possible in such systems as D&D wherein XP is awarded explicitly for combat, not for being in-character or anything obviously unrelated to roleplaying like that.
