2. What is your quest?

Well, I guess I got a Brevity Quest magnet.

3. What is your favorite color?

Black.

4. How did you discover Everything, and how did you become a noder?

A perplexing advertisement on Slashdot, apparently around May of 1999.

5. What do you see as the most significant changes that have happened to Everything over the past decade?

The most obvious is the move from E1 to E2.

I haven't been paying as much attention over the past 6 years as for the first 4.

The requirement of permission for lyrics seemed to have been the tipping point for a lot of people leaving. I certainly can't speak for anyone else, but I guess some people always wanted to be more serious about everything, and eventually the opposition got tired and moved on.

7. What are your favorite and least favorite memories from E2's history?

The first set of gatherings I went to are certainly my favorite memories. Two compound parties, meeting randir and masukomi and Templeton and drunkenmonkey and Illumina for the first time, numerous BAP get-togethers. The trek of so many to come to my going-away party in 2002 and my birthday party in 2003 was very much appreciated.

Least favorite? Any interaction with DMan, September of 2001, the mass exodus for a couple years thereafter.

8. What keeps you coming back?

Well, I sure as hell don't write much and don't bother reading much in terms of new writeups or the chatterbox. I guess I just check my messages.

9. What do you hope for E2's future?

Nothin'.

10. What does E2 mean to you?

It has a great deal of historical sentimental significance for me, but currently I feel like totally withdrawing.

11. Is E2 a writing site, a community site, an online encyclopedia, or something else? What should it be?

It is something that never really worked except as a community site for whoever stumbles across it. As a writing site, it's not great; it's difficult to collect good feedback and the editorial 'policy' has never existed (or maybe it gets retconned every so often). As an encyclopedia, it filled a niche, but when there was such a large push for monolithic article-length writeups it became difficult to casually contribute.

Site policy has never been clear. Questioning policy was met with derision or threats of penalties and banishment while problem users were tolerated, encouraged, or even sponsored.

12. Who are your favorite noders? Which ones do you miss the most?

I miss sensei. I miss sakke. I miss break. I miss j-dog. I still enjoy reading stuff from The Custodian.

13. Who would play you in the Everything2 movie?

Peter North.
