1956 movie directed by Vincente Minnelli, written by Norman Corwin (based on Irving Stone's book), and starring Kirk Douglas as Vincent Van Gogh, Anthony Quinn as Paul Gauguin, and James Donald as Theo Van Gogh. Douglas was nominated for an Oscar, and Quinn won the Best Supporting Actor award. Minnelli worked hard to reproduce the look of Van Gogh's art on film, at one point spray-painting a field yellow to make it more closely resemble one of Van Gogh's paintings.
