The Root of All Evil is a long-running late night underground metal show hosted on 106.7 FM KFAI in Minneapolis. Formerly run by the eponymous Earl Root himself, the show has been a staple in the local Twin Cities music scene from 1987 to the present, surviving the founder (now dead of complications from lymphoma), and the first two iterations of Root Cellar Records. The show runs from 1 AM to 6 AM in the morning, and is usually followed by solemn church services (this being Minnesota, usually Lutheran or Baptist services), or the usual kind of dreck found on talk radio in the wee hours.

The Root plays bands like Scepter, Opeth, Gee As In Jesus, Fucking Shit Bisuits, Autumn Decay, Anal Blast, GWAR, Children of Bodom, and other classics. In between, listeners are treated to conversation on all matter of amusing subjects including, but not limited to, censorship, Ron Jeremy, fake ads for nonexistent but horrifying products, and, even more terrifyingly, the occasional real advertisement.

The show has been run by Tim Honebrink since the passing of Earl Root, taking the show in a slightly new direction after eighteen years under Earl Root. Despite, or perhaps because of this, the show has remained entertaining, irreverent, and relevant to metal fans not just in Minnesota but across the United States.
