Digital photos do not fade

the way old polaroids did

their edges do not curl

Images of a departed friend that you saved

remain sharp,  do not become grey

instead it is our memory that loses focus

Still we call death

a loss

the removal of a life from our life

yet,

it paradoxically burdens us with its weight

a heavy sigh

that does not leave our chest
