French for "Canadian Athletic Club", and the original name for the "
Club de Hockey Canadien". Otherwise known as the "
Montreal Canadiens".
The name was originally applied in in 1910 after the purchase of the team by George Kendall-Kennedy from J. Ambrose O'Brien. The name remained until the team joing the
National Hockey League (
NHL) in 1917. At which point they adopted the name "
Club de Hockey Canadien".
