Perth is the
capital and the largest
city of
Western Australia. Standing at the far southwestern tip of the
continent it basks in an almost ideal
climate.
Perhaps the most pleasant aspect of the Perth climate goes by the name of the Fremantle Doctor. On sunny
summer days, the
temperature in Perth can climb extremely high (above 40C). It is in just these conditions that a cool breeze blows up the
Swan River from the
port of
Fremantle and the
sea. As this breeze sweeps up the river and runs through the city streets, it brings a welcome relief from the heat for the citizens of Perth.
It is the Fremantle Doctor that stops the city becoming unbearably hot in the summer months.
