The Joshua Tree National Park in Joshua Tree, CA is a rock climbing paradise, full of challenging climbs with eccentric names like "Bitch, Bitch" and "Grand Theft Avocado".
Grand Theft Avocado is also a nickname among California's law enforcement community for the significant problem of avocado theft among local farms and orchards. Since stealing cars or fencing stolen stereos can be fairly risky, many criminals are realizing that a grocery cart full of stolen avocados can fetch a healthy price from shady restauranteurs and shopkeepers, especially around Super Bowl Sunday or Cinco de Mayo, when citywide demand for guacamole is especially high. Although it is a felony under California law to steal more than US$100 worth of avocados (among other agricultural products), the relative ease continues to attract thieves.
