A small town in
Liverpool, about 5 miles from the city centre.
The name comes from it's
Viking history, 'Huy' meaning 'high' and 'ton' meaning 'town'. It's been around so long it appeared in the
Domesday Book of
1066.
Famous people from Huyton include the
Liverpool F.C. footballer Steve Gerrard, and was represented by
Harold Wilson, who was the
M.P. for the area before he became
Prime Minister of
Great Britain.
The locals speak in a
Scouse dialect, distinct to the
Liverpool area. A local term for Huyton is '
Two Dogs'. This comes from an old
rhyme 'Huyton, Huyton, two dogs fightin'.
