(
Tolkien's
Arda;
Sindarin: "waters of the Swans")
These were marshy lands and great fens above the Númenorean settlement of
Tharbad in Minhiriath, being the outflow of the river Glanduin. On the
borders of Eriador, where the Glanduin merged with the Hoarwell to become
the Gwathló (or Greyflood), they were so called due to the large population
of swans (and other waterbirds) that lived there.
Known in the common speech (Westron) as "Swanfleet".
