Super Bowl IV|Super Bowl VI
January 11, 1971
Two key defensive plays and a last minute field goal by the Colts capped one of the most exciting Super Bowls in history.
Dallas in their first Super Bowl appearance, led Baltimore by a touchdown at halftime. However, a Colts interception five seconds before the end of the game set up a dramatic 32-yard field goal by Baltimore kicker Jim O'Brien, giving the Colts their sole Super Bowl win, 16-13.
Attendance for the game was 79,204. Dallas linebacker Chuck Howley, who made two interceptions, was the first defensive player to be named Super Bowl MVP. He was also the first MVP to play for the losing team. Don McCafferty was head coach for the Colts, while the legendary Tom Landry headed up the Cowboys. This was also the very first Super Bowl to be played on artificial turf. Thanks deep thought.
