Articles of clothing or houseware that are not purchased, but received ("handed down") from the previous owner, such as an older sibling.

In the case of clothing, may cause resentment in younger siblings who don't get as many nice "new things" as their older counterparts. In the case of housewares, may result in gratitude from young adult trying to set up an apartment without spending any money.
