Originally meant to be in Denver, these games had to be held in Innsbruck
for the second time in twelve years. This because the Colorado citizens in a
referendum decided they would not spend any more money on the venues that were
unfinished.
The Soviet Union won the ice hockey gold undefeated, fourth time in a row. Rosi Mittermaier of Germany won two gold medals and a silver in alpine skiing.
