The 321 area code was created on November 1, 1999 to cover the Space Coast of Florida—the area around Cape Canaveral and Titusville. Before 321, these cities were in the 407 area code with Orlando.

321 has a unique twist, though. Although it's the only area code for the Space Coast, it is also used for new phone numbers in the 407 area around Orlando. While there are some other area codes that overlay multiple area codes (e.g. 917 in New York City), 321 is the only area code that has its own jurisdiction and also overlays another.

Leave it to Florida to come up with something so, uh, "special."
